Understand the concept

Before you can start to dive into a research paper, it's important that you make sure you understand the topic. The tabs in this box link to Topic pages from the Credo Reference Database, each one connected to one of the options in your assignment prompt. Think about:

  • What does the term mean?
  • What does the root word mean? What is the opposite?
  • What is the history connected to this topic?
  • What are that smaller issues or examples connected to the topic? Which one interests you the most?

TIPS

  1. Look at the See Also section at the bottom of the page. These are terms that you may want to explore further.
  2. Do a search in the Credo Database to understand the topic from different angles.
  3. While you are in Credo, check out the Mind Map tool and see how topics connect to one another.
  4. Keep track of the temps that are relevant in your notebook, they will be useful later on when you start to search for articles.
