LSC-Kingwood Dual Credit Program

This guide was created to help students learn about LSC-Kingwood's dual credit program; Spring 2022.

Eligibility Requirements

You can become eligible for the Dual Credit Program in four easy steps!
 

  1. Obtain approval from your high school counselor.
     
  2. Complete the LSC admission application through ApplyTexas.
     
  3. Meet all course prerequisites/minimum college readiness test scores in reading, writing, and/or math for enrolled courses.
     
  4. Maintain a final grade of C or better in all dual credit courses in order to enroll in subsequent courses.

Choose Your Plan

The College Essentials Plan

  • Includes 6 classes typically included in degrees offered at Texas public universitiesCourses include:
    • ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302
    • HIST 1301 and 1302
    • GOVT 2305 and 2306
    • You may also take 1 creative arts class such as ARTS, DRAM or MUSI. 

  • Courses are typically taken during the junior and senior year of high school
     
  • Completing the College Essentials Plan earns a semester and a half of college credit and saves thousands of dollars!

The Core Complete Plan 

  • Includes 14 college courses (42 college credit hours) in 9 component areas guaranteed by law to transfer to Texas public universities
     
  • Courses are typically taken over all 4 years of high school including summer
     
  • Completing the Core Complete Plan earns 3 full semesters of college credit!

  1. Complete LSC Admissions Application through ApplyTexas

  1. Check your email for your LSC username and ID number.
    • You will usually receive this within 24-48 hours of completing the application.  
    • Save this information! You will need it to complete the registration paperwork.
       

  1. Satisfy Bacterial Meningitis Requirement. This is only required if you are attending an in-person or hybrid class on the college campus.  Additional information can be found at https://www.lonestar.edu/meningitis.htm.
     

  1. Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity
    • This is only required for students taking the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) - https://practice.accuplacer.org/login
      1. Create an account using personal email account and create PAA password.
      2. Login > select 3rd option – Texas Success Initiative 2.0
         

  1. Placement Testing (ACT, SAT, PSAT, and/or TSI)

    • Students must show college readiness in reading, writing, and/or math as applicable to the course(s) the student plans to take.  Dual credit placement testing / college readiness scores can be located at https://www.lonestar.edu/college-departments/dualcredit/dualcredit-tsi.htm.
    • TSI Testing can be completed in-person at a LSC campus or via remote proctoring. The testing fee is waived for all first-time dual credit testers.  Remote proctoring has a fee of $25 per administration.
      • After you have completed the Pre-Assessment Activity AND prior to TSI testing, you will need a testing referral provided by a Lone Star College advisor. 
    • LSC Kingwood is testing by appointment only at this time, please make a reservation for a specific day and time to come to our campus for your placement test through https://www2.registerblast.com/lonestarKingwood/Exam. 
      • You MUST have a testing referral completed before making your reservation
      • Retesting is $10 per section
         

  1. Submit Required Documentation – All items must be typed and signed by the parent/homeschool administrator. 
    1. Homeschool Dual Credit Partnership Agreement must be completed and signed. 
    2. FERPA – Authorization to Release Educational Records
    3. Homeschool Transcript with a graduation plan is required for each student and must be typed high school.  Be sure to review our Homeschool Transcript Checklist and you may choose to use our Transcript Template which can both be located on our website –
    4. Dual Credit Exceptional Admittance and Parental Consent (EA form) - registration form that must be completed each semester to enroll in classes.
       

  1. Registration
    • Discuss course options/recommendations with an advisor.  Core curriculum courses are covered by the dual credit tuition waiver, fees will apply.
    • This process must be conducted by an advisor with approval from a parent or legal guardian and student.
       

  1. Payment – is due by the deadline set forth by LSC each semester.
     
  2. Books and certain course materials are available for purchase through the Lone Star College Virtual Bookstore, powered by TextbookX, operates completely online and can be visited at lonestar.textbookx.com.

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Dual credit students are not permitted to self-register or drop.  To drop a course: 
    • Complete the fillable Dual Credit Drop form below.
    • Using your LSC email, email for complete form to KC-DualCredit@lonestar.edu BEFORE the W-Day for that term and semester (this information is located on your course syllabus). 
    • Be sure to check your mylonestar account regular until the course no longer appears or reads as a W (withdraw). 
       
  2. Maintain a final grade of C or better in all dual credit courses in order to continue in the dual credit program.

        • SECTION(S) TO TEST: ELAR (English, Language Arts, and Reading), MATH OR BOTH? If unsure, please ask your high school counselor for confirmation.
        • IS THIS A RETEST?  If yes, did you previously test at your high school or LSC College?   
      • Retesting is $10 per section.
