Introduction to Citations

Imagine of a pen and paperMLA Style requires you to consider two kinds of citations:

IN-TEXT CITATIONS

  • References the sources throughout your paper
    • Essentially a shout-out to a single source referenced in your paper
  • Follow a direct or indirect quote
  • Usually contains information about the author and page number only

WORKS CITED CITATIONS

  • References the sources at the end of your paper
    • Essentially a list of all of the sources referenced in your paper
  • Do not include a quote
  • Always contains all of the source information
