How does the OBS work?

The One Button Studio is a recording studio where students can record a practice run of their speech or presentation or record the real thing. A practice recording will allow students to see where they need to make improvements for when they either record or present the actual speech or presentation. The video below is similar to the previous set up of the Learning Commons One Button Studio and offers great tips. A video reflecting our set up will be posted when available.

Getting started

  1. At the time of your appointment, check in at the Tech Help Station at the Service Desk.
  2. If recording, check out the packet with TV remote, Projector remote and presentation clicker at   the Tech Help station using your LSC Student ID card. That staff member will unlock the room.
  3. Set up the space for your recording needs, including pulling up an image or opening a power-point presentation that will be projected from the projector. There is a Power Point file on the desktop for students needing a green screen background.
  4. Turn on the projector.
  5. Turn studio lights on, if needed. Light switch is on the back of each light.
  6. Practice your presentation.
  7.  When ready, at the computer, navigate the mouse to the OBS Studio program and click on Start Recording. See more detailed information in the "Recording in the OBS" tab. Recording begins as soon as you click Start Recording. You will need to edit your recording later.
  8. When your presentation is completed go back to the computer and navigate the mouse to the OBS Studio program and click on Stop Recording.
  9. Recording stops and the *.mkv video file is processed and saved to the Recordings folder on the computer desktop.

Finishing up

  1. When you are finished recording or your appointment time has ended, save your recording(s) to a flash drive you brought or to you One Drive account.
  2. Turn the lights, projector, and camera off, if used.
  3. Turn off the ceiling light as you walk out of the studio.
  4. Return the remote controls and presentation clicker to the Service Desk to be checked in.
  5. If needed, use Yuja, Adobe Premier or Movie Maker to edit your video on any of the LC computers (the laptops do not have Adobe products). Do not use the computer in the studio to edit recordings. There is no video editing software on it.
