HyFlex Classroom Technology

One of the newest teaching opportunities to Kingwood faculty is Hybrid-Flexible. HyFlex allows faculty to make course content available to students who are unable to attend class in person and still maintain the traditional face-to-face classroom for those who are. In this session, faculty can learn how to use the technology in one of our 40-plus HyFlex classrooms and labs. Register here.

This resource offers educators practical strategies to identify potential AI-generated content in student work. Part one focuses on foundational understanding of AI writing patterns and common indicators of AI assistance. Learn to recognize subtle signs of AI involvement, such as unnatural language, lack of personal voice, and inconsistent writing style. Register here

Introduction to Social Annotation and Its Pedagogical Imperatives

Presented by Remi Kalir, Associate Director of Faculty Development and Applied Research, Duke University

This session provides an introduction to the concept of annotation as an everyday literacy practice. We will explore how annotation can be used to enhance learning, foster meaningful discussions, and build community within the classroom. Participants will explore strategies for incorporating social annotation into their courses. The session will highlight two key pedagogical imperatives: careful reading of the course syllabus and meaningful discussion of course readings. Attendees will gain insights into how to use social annotation to support student engagement, knowledge construction, and collaborative discourse. Register here

Professional Development Travel Request


Key Details:

  • Application Period: For late fall and spring conferences (November 2024 – August 2025). The application period is open from August 1 to September 9, with awards announced in late September.
  • Funding Amount: Up to $3,000 can be awarded for one conference per applicant per fiscal year.
  • Eligibility: All full-time Kingwood faculty and staff members can apply for one conference.
  • New Application Forms: Attached are the new Professional Development Funds Request Forms for faculty and staff, along with an FAQ document to answer questions that typically come up and to guide you through the process.
  • Deadline: The applications must be submitted to this email by September 9 before 5 p.m.

How to Apply:

  1. Read the FAQ Document: Ensure you understand the eligibility requirements, the application process, and what the funds cover.
  2. Complete the Relevant Form: Choose the form applicable to your role (Faculty or Staff) and fill out all required fields.
  3. Discuss with Your Supervisor: Make a game plan for ensuring coverage during your absence and obtain the necessary signatures.
  4. Submit Your Application: Ensure your application is complete as one file and submit it to KC-ProfessionalDevelopment@lonestar.edu by September 9 before 5 p.m.
