One-Button Studio

Welcome to the One-Button Studio

                                             A user friendly Recording Studio.

The One-Button Studio is a recording studio where students can record a practice run of their speech or presentation or record the real thing. A practice recording will allow students to see where they need to make improvements for when they either record or present the actual speech or presentation. The video below is similar to the Learning Commons One-Button Studio and offers great tips. A video reflecting our set up will be posted when available.

One-Button Studio Guidelines

  • The studio may be used for 30 minutes to 2 hours with the opportunity to extend time, if other appointments or not made..
  • Appointments are made through WCOnline
  • The studio can be used by an individual or group up to four people
  • The recording studio closes an hour before the Learning Commons closes.
  • Students are required to bring their own 3 GB or larger flash drive.

Bring a 3GB or higher, empty flash drive to save recording(s). Flash drives are not provided.

Getting started

  1. At the time of your appointment, check in at the Tech Help Station at the Service Desk.
  2. If recording, check out the packet with TV remote, Projector remote and presentation clicker at   the Tech Help station using your LSC Student ID card. That staff member will unlock the room.
  3. Set up the space for your recording needs, including logging into the PC if projecting an image or power-point presentation from the projector. There is a Power Point file on the desktop for students needing a green screen background.
  4. Turn on the projector.
  5. Practice your presentation.
  6. Insert a flash drive into the USB port cable with the pink tape. The flash drive should have enough free storage to save your video. We recommend a minimum of 3 GB.
  7. Turn studio lights on, if needed. Light switch is on the back of each light.
  8. To start, press the red button on the recording box. The light around the box will turn solid red and recording has begun. There is not a countdown, so give yourself a few seconds before you begin your speech or presentation.
  9. Record your presentation.
  10. When your presentation is completed, press the red button to stop the recording.
  11. Recording stops and the *.mp4 video file is processed and saved to the flash drive.  When the light around the box turns green you can either re-record or remove the flash drive from the USB port. When the flash drive is removed the light will once again begin blinking red.

Finishing up

  1. When you are finished recording or your appointment time has ended. Remove the flash drive.
  2. Turn the lights, projector, and camera off, if used.
  3. Sign-out of the computer.
  4. Turn off the ceiling light as you walk out of the studio.
  5. Return the remote controls and presentation clicker to the Service Desk to be checked in.
  6. If needed, use Adobe Premier or Movie Maker to edit your video on any of the LC computers (the laptops do not have Adobe products). Do not use the computer in the studio. There is no video editing software on it.
