Scenario: A Faculty member insists that you fix the access on his One-Card because he can’t get into his classroom and his class is starting in five minutes. What do you do?
Since the Faculty member’s priority is to get the door open so he won’t be late for his class, tell him politely that while the Learning Commons does not control access, we can call his DOM, DOS, or Staff Assistant for his Dept and ask them to meet the faculty member at his classroom to open the door. To speed up the process, get the classroom building and number from the faculty member. Invite him back after his class so ID Credentials can be checked to see if his access is still activated on his OneCard. He will then be able to tell his DOM what he needs for access to the classroom. (If his access is active, it’s possible his card is damaged. The DOM may send the faculty member back with a completed form for a replacement ID.
If he doesn’t have access, he will need to work with his DOM to request the appropriate permissions. He won’t need a new card. The DOM will work with Access Control to add the permissions to his One Card.
(If this occurs at night, contact the police to let the faculty member in his classroom.)
Say:
Unfortunately, we do not have control over access permissions, but I can help you by contacting your Division Office Manager (DOM) DOS, or Staff Assistant from your Department. What is your Building and Room number so I can have the DOM meet you there to open the door? After class, you are welcome to come back so we can check our ID program to see if your access is still activated. Then you will be able to tell the DOM what you need for access to your classroom.
