ENGL 1301: "The Late 1900s"

This guide was created for Dr. Ashley Brinkman's English 1301 class: "The Late 1900's" for the Fall Semester 2024.

Subculture Project

Steps.

  1. I will assign you a group.

  1. As a group, pick a subculture. Subcultures pop up and disappear over time. The 1990s had several subcultures of note. Here is a list: grunge, preppy, skater, kicker, hip-hop, rave, goth, riotgrrrl, Britpop, punk, cholo, Chicano rave scene, alternative/indie.  If you want to go off list, then talk to me first to give me a heads up.

  1. Find two reputable online sources that explain what subcultures are, why they exist, and what their purpose is. Fill out the vetting worksheet together.

  1. Find two reputable online sources that explain your subculture. Fill out the vetting worksheet for them as well. (You will end up submitting four worksheets total.)

  1. Download the PowerPoint template, personalize it, and submit it. This will be due by midnight the day before presentations.

  1. Create a Works Cited page. This will be due by midnight the day before presentations.

  1. Present to the class. If you miss the presentation, you cannot make it up and will receive a 0 for that portion of the grade.
