Preliminary Paperwork and Mandatory Training
- HR will schedule an orientation and I-9 meetings on their start date.
- HR's email with the above details will include their ID number and email address
- Directions are included in the email about all the on-boarding necessities, including creating a password
- Get Employee ID badge with appropriate access (see ID and Badges tab for more information)
- Submit a ticket to OTS for the new hire to have cashier privileges in Pharos. Include the name and employee number on the ticket.
- Have the new hire sign up to receive emergency text alerts from the college. Emphasize that they need to pay attention to text messages and emails from the college are their supervisor may or may not be able to contact them. Advise the employee that in the case of unexpected closures due to inclement weather or other reasons, part-time staff will be paid for their scheduled shifts. Your supervisor will key in the missed shift for you.
- Complete HR new hire training modules in MyLoneStar.
- Complete Safe Colleges mandatory training modules online. An email will be sent to the new hire when the modules are ready. Uploads happen once a week, so the training may not be available until a week after the new hire begins.
Learning Commons Specific Training
- A detailed tour of the campus buildings.
- Learn the LC Manual and it contents. Highlight Meet the Team page. Make sure they have access to the service team contact page.
- Technology Training: Scanning, printing, Pharos
- Circulation Training
- WC Online access
- Reference Training; practice research questions, go over current assigned topics and books; show current libguides.
- Service Desk Training : Telephone transfer and holds. General service desk rules and service points/stations.
