Active Shooter/Lock Down
If there is a real active shooter emergency or Lock Down:
- Your number one responsibility is to SURVIVE.
- Encourage others around you to run to the Computer Labs in the back.
- In the Computer Lab, push the lockdown button.
- Use the remote to close the blinds in the Computer Lab.
- Turn off the lights in the Computer Lab.
- Hide behind the computer lab desks and remain quiet.
- Remember that the computer labs are made to be bullet resistant.
- Do NOT move from the labs until given the ALL Clear.
- The police will move from area to area. Stay hidden until the police have secured the area and evacuates you.
- Keep your hands visible and follow the instructions of the police officers to evacuate.
If a real lockdown occurs during the day, the full timers will:
- Lock the doors in the foyer of the Learning Commons
- Turn off all of the lights in the Learning Commons.
- Lower the blinds throughout the Learning Commons with remote. (There is also another remote on the outside of the computer labs near the breakroom to lower the blinds throughout the Learning Commons.)
- Make their way back to the Computer Labs. (The Full Timers may be locked out already from the Computer Labs and may have to hide in the Breakroom instead.)
- Some of the Full Timers may choose to lockdown in their office.
Active Shooter/Lock Down Drills
For the Active Shooter/Lock Down Drills, the Part Time Service Desk employees will “act” as if it is real and perform the following:
- Remind patrons that if they stay in the Learning Commons, they will be required to participate in the Drill.
- Go to one of the Computer Labs and let the patrons in.
- In the Computer Lab, push the lockdown button.
- Use the remote to close the blinds in the Computer Lab.
- Turn off the lights in the Computer Lab.
- Hide behind the computer lab desks and remain quiet.
- Do NOT move from the labs until given the ALL Clear. For a drill, this may be an announcement over the intercom.
- When the Active Shooter/Lock Down Drill is over, inform the LC Service Desk Supervisor of anything you felt could have been improved, and if any equipment was faulty, eg. “all of the blinds except one section would not close when I pressed the remote."
